Course Description:

Non-Credit Private Piano Study:
This course is designed for pre-college students and adult hobbyists pursuing piano study as a personal enrichment activity.

Registration

All students must register through College of DuPage Continuing Education. Students should speak directly with Dr. Havens to establish an appropriate plan of study and lesson time.

How to Register:

  1. After speaking with Dr. Havens and confirming lesson availability and a schedule, contact Continuing Education directly at 630-942-2208.
  2. Inform the staff that arrangements have been made with Dr. Havens and that you wish to register at the Quest Level(30-minute weekly lessons – 4 hours total).
  3. Payment can be taken over the phone via credit card. Registration typically includes 8 thirty-minute lessons (4 hours total) for the session.

Course Content

Lessons will focus on three primary areas:

  • Technique
  • Keyboard Theory
  • Repertoire

Assignments are customized per student, based on department guidelines and instructor discretion.

Studio Policies

  1. Registration must be validated through Continuing Education by the first week of the term.
  2. Lessons will be held on most school holidays, unless otherwise noted in the studio calendar.
  3. Cancellation Policy: Minimum 24-hour notice required for makeup eligibility. Emergencies will be accommodated when possible.
  4. Parent Involvement: For students under 16, parents should support practice habits and maintain a tuned instrument at home.
  5. Participation in recitals and events is expected when requested by the instructor.
  6. Daily practice is essential for artistic growth.
  7. The instructor reserves the right to refer students elsewhere if the studio agreement is not upheld.

College of DuPage Spring 2026 Academic Calendar:

Monday, January 26 – Start of Spring Term

Spring Break (No lessons) - Monday, March 30 through Sunday, April 5

Friday, May 22 – End of Spring Term

Lesson Structure

Quest Level (30-minute lessons): (Typically students purchase applied lessons in 8-week blocks)

Students receive eight 30-minute lessons across the eight-week term. All students, regardless of level, register at the Quest level.

Continuing Commitment

Students are expected to continue their study for the full academic year unless there are extenuating circumstances.
