College of DuPage Applied Music Policies and Regulations

At College of DuPage, students may opt for either one-credit applied piano study, two-credit study, which includes a jury examination at the end of the term, or non-credit study, intended for students of pre-college age, as well as adult hobbyists seeking to study piano as a personal enrichment activity.

All students are required to register for applied music study with the College of DuPage on a semester basis. The academic calendar of the College is comprised of two 16-week semesters and one 8-week summer session.

Private study is a professional arrangement between teacher and student. As such, students assume full responsibility for weekly appointments as they would for classes. A minimum of 24 hours’ notice must be given for each cancellation in order for a student to be eligible for a make-up lesson. For those qualifying for a make-up lesson, additional appointments will be offered as schedule permits. In the case of emergency or illness, every attempt will be made to reschedule a lesson.

1. The successful acquisition of artistic skill demands disciplined work. Daily practice is essential to your development as a pianist.

2. Parents of younger students (under 16 years old), are expected to actively share in the responsibilities of piano study by providing: an atmosphere for practice (free of distractions), a consistent practice schedule and routine, support and encouragement in goal-setting and organization of practice, as well as a well-tuned and regulated piano for daily use.

3. Students are expected to participate in recitals and other events as requested by the teacher.

4. In order to maintain the standards of this studio, the teacher reserves the right to dismiss students or refer them to another instructor.
